New Beginnings / New Ideas 2023

Happy New Year 2023, everyone!

With each new year comes change – an ushering out of the new and the welcoming in of fresh new ideas, adventures and projects. Here is a quick summary of what I have on the docket:

I will continue writing my twice monthly art column for 48 Hills San Francisco. We have a great new roster ahead with fabulous artists, both emerging and deeply established in the community. You can read each fresh installment here:

After a few years of weekly essays, prose, and philosophical meanderings, I will be winding things down on Medium.com. While I will no longer be showcasing chunkier, regular postings there, I will continue to contribute monthly short poetry via two favorite feature publications on the site – Scuzzbucket and Spiritual Tree, with an occasional essay for Illumination. All of this is to say that I am clearing out space to pursue my next big writing projects: the compilation and publication of my first collection of short stories and the beginnings of a novel project that is newly underway! Stay tuned for future updates on these endeavors.

New Nonfiction Book Is Now Available

I am excited to announce that my new nonfiction book has finally published and is available for purchase on Amazon.

 
SHIFT: A New Paradigm for Women in the Workplace – Stories and Strategies, 
is one-part memoir, one-part socio-cultural analysis and one-part motivational guide.
For women of all ages, the book shines a light on the many obstacles for women in the workplace, as well as the successes that are taking shape since the advent of recent movements aimed at equity, inclusion and safety.

What’s New for the New Year?

Happy 2022, everyone!

With the beginning of a new chapter, we all get to reflect, reimagine, and reboot. I have spent the last year focusing on finishing my first nonfiction book and it’s finally ready to go to press!

The book, “SHIFT: A New Paradigm for Women in the Workplace – Stories and Strategies,” will be published at the end of this month and available for purchase on February 1. I’ll keep you posted on details as well as make a few excerpts available on my website soon.

Beginning with my own story, the book includes stories from women of all ages and experience while intermingling historical references and future visions from dynamic individuals and organizations working to improve conditions for women in the workplace.

My hope with this book is to bring fresh inspiration and ideas on how to improve a stagnant model in dire need of change. I’m excited to see this project through to fruition as the seedlings were sown in 2018. Phew!

As I look ahead, I will be returning to writing short stories for Medium.com while organizing them all into thematic collections to publish in book form. Stay tuned for those developments!

I hope 2022 will inspire creativity and excitement in whatever new endeavors you are imagining. May we all enjoy comfort and camaraderie. May we rest easy and feel confident in matters of health and well-being in the days to come and year ahead. Cheers!

Summer 2021

Here we are in the dog days of summer already. I hope this note finds you all well and enjoying the season. As we slowly adjust to a new rhythm, I am feeling hopeful and more at ease, though life remains unpredictable, changeable and full of surprises.

One such good surprise for me this month, is the recent signing of a book contract for my nonfiction work-in-progress, SHIFT: Stories and Strategies for a New Paradigm. Golden Dragonfly Press, based in Amherst, MA, will be publishing the book, set for release in late Fall 2021 or Winter 2022. Stay tuned for updates on when and where to purchase the book. New short fiction, nonfiction and poetry are added weekly to various publications on Medium.com, so be sure to check out my stories there. My latest story to post this summer on Medium.com was the flash fiction piece, If You Want to Know Me, published in the wonderful Scuzzbucket on July 9.

~ Minus Fifty Degrees, published in The Junction. This short story is based on the essay I wrote on Andrew Miguel Fuller, titled Degrees of Isolation: From Antarctica to Pandemic America.

Other stories outside the realm of Medium.com will continue to be accessible here on my website, as I continue to put together several interconnected collections of short stories. I hope to publish these collections consecutively in 2022-2023.

Spring Announcements

Hello everyone!

Spring is in full swing and hopefully, too, a change of season towards global health and wellbeing will flourish. As we all hit the refresh button, please have a look at a few new stories that have published in recent weeks:

(mac)ro(mic) published a Flash version of my short story, Visitor, on April 7. The

full-length version is on my website here.

Hedge Apple, a literary magazine based in Hagerstown, MD, published Desert in
their online publication on April 19. The story will appear in the print version of the

magazine in late May.

Otoliths, a quarterly publication based in Queensland, Australia, published a very 
abbreviated “Version 3” of my longest short story to date, Chasing Feinman, on May 1. To view the original, full-length version of the story posted on my web site, click here.

I am thrilled to appear in my first international publication, especially a magazine that once featured work from my former college professor and mentor, acclaimed Beat poet and playwright, Michael McClure.

A Fresh New Start

It’s 2021 and I’m off to a fresh new start. If you haven’t checked in recently on my website, be sure to peruse my pages. I’ve added some new content in the past few weeks and months as well as included two new pages:

Fuller and I compare notes on the particular brand of extreme isolation he experienced vis-à-vis the rest of the world, as the quickly escalating, global pandemic unfolded. It’s quite interesting!
